Orkla India: History

The Company was originally incorporated as MTR Foods Limited, a public limited company, under the Companies Act, 1956, on August 21, 1996.

The Company was then converted into a public limited company under a resolution passed by the shareholders on March 13, 2025, and its name was changed to Orkla India Limited, as per a fresh certificate of incorporation issued by the RoC on April 25, 2025.

Orkla India Ltd. is a multi-category Indian food company, offering a diverse range of products that cater to every meal occasion, from breakfast and lunch to dinner, snacks, beverages, and desserts.

The key product categories that the company offers are,

  1. Spices (blended and pure spices),
  2. Convenience Foods (ready-to-cook & ready-to-eat foods),
  3. Vermicelli (a number of variants of Vermicelli)
  4. Others

In spices, the company’s key products include –

  • Chicken Masala, Meat Masala, Puliogare Masala, Rasam Masala, and Sambar Masala, among others, in blended spices; and
  • Chilli, Coriander, and Cumin, Kashmiri Chilli, Turmeric, among others, in pure spices.
  • Convenience Foods products simplify the cooking process and enable quick meal preparation through products such as Gulab Jamun Mix, Dhokla Mix, Rava Idli Mix, 3-Minute Poha, 3-Minute Upma, Dosa Mix, Kesari Halwa, Paneer Makhanwala, Chinese Honey Chilli Cooking Paste, among others.
  • Vermicelli portfolio includes Seviyan Vermicelli, Rice Seviyan, Roasted Vermicelli, and Macaroni.
  • Other products include beverages, Coconut Milk, Ginger Garlic Paste, Malabar Parotas, Pulses, Pickles, Rice, and Confectionery.

The Company’s products, under the brands MTR Foods and Eastern Condiments, are crafted with tradition and authenticity, and are deeply rooted in the South Indian (Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana) culinary heritage.

According to the Technopak Report, in FY 2024, Orkla was one of the top four companies in India, in terms of revenue from operations among select leading spices and convenience food peers.

Manufacturing Facilities

The Company operates 9 manufacturing facilities with a combined installed capacity of 1,82,270 TPA, supported by 21 contract manufacturers across India, Malaysia, Thailand, and the UAE.

 

Distribution Network

As of March 31, 2025, the company’s distribution network comprises 843 distributors, 1,800 sub-distributors, and 6,86,729 retail touchpoints across 28 states and 5 union territories (UT), as well as a presence in modern trade, quick-commerce, and e-commerce platforms.
